NEW Script Development Series

We are delighted to announce a new workshop series for playwrights and screenwriters called the Script Development Series.

Participants in this series will meet monthly to discuss submitted plays and screenplays with directors, actors and fellow writers. The goal is to turn drafts into producible, quality scripts through workshops, readings and staged readings. The location of the six-month workshop will alternate between Bloomington and Indianapolis to accommodate writers throughout the state.

More information will be coming shortly but all are welcome to submit scripts now!

Script Submission Guidelines

Please note: scripts must be submitted in both electronic and hard copies.

  • No scripts will be returned.
  • Previously workshopped or produced scripts are eligible; however, scripts that have received an Equity production or have been filmed by a major studio are not.
  • Playwrights and screenwriters may submit a maximum of three submissions at the beginning of each six-month Script Development Series.
  • Each submission must be at least ten pages in length.
  • Each manuscript must be typed in 12 point font and individually bound or stapled.
  • A current bio must accompany submission materials to be used for publicity purposes.
  • The title page must include a name, address, e-mail address and telephone number.
  • The volume of scripts submitted hampers our ability to comment individually on each work; therefore, Starrynight Productions will not offer criticism.
  • A fee of $150.00 will be due at the start of each six-month term to cover the cost of hiring actors and facilitation. This fee may need to be adjusted over time to account for increased costs.

Playwrights and screenwriters must meet regularly and be actively involved in the series. Participants are not automatically admitted into the Script Development Series and a production is not guaranteed by Starrynight Productions. However, only works developed in the Script Development Series shall be considered for the annual Indiana New Play Festival hosted by Starrynight Productions and IndyFringe.

The annual Indiana New Play Festival features performances and education seminars for theatre artisans. The festival will offer public performances of the best adjudicated plays developed in the Script Development Series.
